Court summons spoils Salman Khan's birthday

Mumbai, Dec 29: While birthday boy and Bollywood star Salman Khan remained cheerful and ebullient all through the evening before his birthday Dec 27, his family and friends lost the spirit of celebration once the court summons was served on Salman Thursday.

Rumi feels Salman's life and career are a casualty of jealousy. "I am 100 percent certain it were Salman's rivals who provoked the courts summons on his birthday. We lost our excitement about his birthday. But he was fine. He kept everyone's spirits high. Strange, in country where there are so many serious crimes, a 10-year old hit-and-run case should evoke such enthusiasm. I feel it's not about just justice. It's also about getting someone as successful as Salman into a sticky situation. But Salman was unperturbed. He had more fun than all of us put together."

Salman felt it wouldn't be appropriate to celebrate at a time when the Delhi gang-rape victim was battling for her life. Only close friends were going to be invited. Even that changed after the courts summons. The idea of hosting a party was dropped. People who dropped in did so uninvited, a source said.

Angry about the courts summons, Rumi Jaffery - who was at Salman's Galaxy Apartments residence the night before the star's birthday - hit out at the sheer injustice of it. "We all respect the law. But look at the timing of the courts summons. Why something like this on his birthday? Couldn't it have been a day earlier or later? Everyone knows it's Salman's birthday Dec 27. Why ask him to attend court on a day when his fans would like to reach out to him, wish him, see him on television? Why take away from the joy of the special day?
Another close friend of Salman said: "Salman isn't worried about the outcome of the case. His only concern is, his family members may end up saying something politically incorrect. He has told his family to not speak about the case."

2013 BMW M6

After a two-year hiatus, the M6 is back. Besides the benefits that come with the new 6 Series (sharper styling, roomier front-seat accommodations and more useful trunk space), the M6 provides more power under the hood — a lot more power. Output from the M6's twin-turbo V8 even tops that of its predecessor's high-revving V10 engine.

With 560 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque at your command, one might assume that the M6 is a handful to drive and a bit of an untamed beast. In classic M style, though, all of this power has been beautifully balanced by not only a well-tuned chassis but also an abundance of electronic assistants which together deliver a manageable and civilized ride.

Thanks to top-notch interior materials, skillful assembly and all of the latest electronic conveniences found in luxury flagships, the 2013 BMW M6 won't require much in the way of sacrifices. If there is one complaint, it would be the hefty amount of weight here, which limits not only performance but also driver confidence.

Standard features include 19-inch alloy wheels, adaptive suspension dampers, a power-operated fabric top (convertible), a sunroof (coupe), automatic adaptive xenon headlights, heated and power-folding mirrors, automatic wipers, front and rear parking sensors, auto-dimming mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless ignition/entry, sun-reflective leather upholstery, 16-way power heated front seats (with four-way lumbar support), front seat memory functions, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel.

2013 BMW M5

The new M5 will assuredly be profitable. But whether it is spectacular or merely great—many people would put a 4300-pound luxury sedan that hits 60 mph in 3.7 seconds firmly in the former category—it’s definitely no parts-bin badge job.

The M5 spurns the electric-assist steering in lesser 5-series models for a more natural-feeling hydraulic boost. And thanks to sharper camber and caster settings, the car’s commitment to the driver’s desired trajectory is firmer than in the wandering 5s and 7s we’ve driven lately.

Speaking of acceleration numbers, we have them, stolen on a quiet side road in southern Spain while nobody was looking except some ducks and possibly a Chinese spy satellite. It took a while to master the new M5’s picayune order of button pushing and lever pulling to activate the launch control (example: Step on the brake but not too hard, hold the shift lever forward but not for too long).

Well, with the M5, one must remember that it remains unapologetically a heavyweight. It is an executive express, a velvet-wrapped hammer, a shark in whale’s clothes. It is not a four-door Lotus Elise. BMW figures M5 owners are richer than M3 owners and that they want commensurate levels of luxury and gizmology. Indeed, you cannot select a gear, push a pedal, or turn the wheel in the new M5 without assistance from the many watchful computers monitoring your every bodily twitch.

If the M5 achieves its stated goal of a 30-percent gain in fuel economy, combined mpg could reach 20 when the EPA gets around to rating it. BMW is also strongly hinting that the U.S. market will again get a manual-transmission option.

Deepika Padukone:I know how to be competitive in healthy way

I think there are two ways to look at it. Everybody doesn't get to do each and every film. I don't compete with others; I compete with myself. I have been an athlete, a sportsperson; so I know how to be competitive in a healthy way," Deepika, a former badminton player whose father, Prakash Padukone, was a national badminton champion and won the coveted All-England badminton crown, told IANS in an exclusive interview.

"Many a time, a most predictable film doesn't work, while the least expected films click at the box office. So everything is in the hands of the audience. I don't demarcate any film. If a film does well and gets into the
Rs.100 crore club, well and good. But I want the audience to appreciate my quality of work," she said

Her forthcoming film is Race 2, in which she has teamed up with Saif Ali Khan yet again after working with him in hits like Love Aaj Kal, Aarakshan and Cocktail. She hopes movie buffs appreciate their chemistry in the the fast-paced thriller

Far Cry 3 Review

Far Cry 3 establishes a bleak and mature tone out of the gate. Jason, our protagonist, should fear the pirates running the tropical retreat of Rook Island. The emotional weight only gets heavier as he tries to save his missing friends from slave-trading psychopaths. In turn, Jason’s gradual transformation from coward to killer unfolds in a natural, believable way, which compensates for the narrow revenge premise.

The many secrets hidden in its gigantic, open world aren’t arbitrary video game collectibles. Lost letters from World War II detail past struggles on Rook Island. Stray memory cards detail the depravity of its drug operations.

Loss of control is an important theme throughout Far Cry 3. Jason and the majority of the main cast have a hard time keeping it together, either because they’re coming unglued or have already lost it

Multiplayer, on the other hand, retains very little of what makes Far Cry 3’s single-player campaign special. The combat is still fast and engaging, but it’s less tactical with fewer attack opportunities
